Our team consists of:

The Foundation Director – Christopher Ahrends

  •  Chris has a B.SocSc (Psychology and Social Work) HONS, and a post-graduate Diploma in Theology. He is also an accredited MBTI facilitator
  • Chris has been a Scholar-in-Residence at Marquette University and a visiting Professor at the School of Social Work at Hawaii Pacific University. He was formerly the Chaplain to Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the Exec Director of the Desmond Tutu Peace Centre in South Africa
  • Chris teaches several classes in African Studies, Theology, Social Development and Politics as well as in Transformation Processes

The Internship Coordinator – Julie De Nicola

  • Julie has a B.SocSc (Social Work) HONS degree
  • Julie has several years experience in Social Work in a wide range of developing communities of the Western Cape as well as in medical Social Work at the internationally recognised Red Cross Children’s Hospital in Cape Town, South Africa
  • Julie arranges, supervises and oversees all the service-internship placements as well as teaches classes on personal and social transformation

The Extra-Mural Programme Coordinator – Ruth Parker

  • Ruth has a MSc (Environmental Studies)
  • Ruth is an author, conservation biologist, community activist in conservation farming and in the field of education for special needs children
  • Ruth coordinates and facilitates the orientation and mid-term break programs as well as assisting students participate in outdoor activities during their visit.

The Social Entrepreneur – Steven Viviers

  • Steven has a BA (English and Communications), MBA and part MSc (Human Resources and Training)
  • Steven is an entrepreneur, business and service improvement consultant and author
  • Steven has worked for organisations as diverse as Shell Petroleum, Chesebrough-Ponds, Woolworths Ltd and True North (a Social Development NPO) and runs his own management consultancy serving SME’s throughout South Africa
